Closed shops and Malay cuisine

Last night, we planned to go and try out a new place to eat (new to us, not newly opened). Unfortunately, the shop was closed. We suspect it is closed for good, because there was no sign saying they were on holiday. So we decided to go to another place for some fish head that we had tried before. It is a green chilli steamed fish head, but it seems that I have never blogged about it before, and I don't even have a photo. :(

But when we arrived at the food court (Yee Hong food court in Lip Sin area). the stall was no longer there*! So we went to another shop nearby. At first we wanted to go to Kayu Nasi Kandar, but a few shops beside it there was this shop that opened quite recently, called Nipah, selling Malay cuisine (I say cuisine because of the presentation). So we decided to try it out instead.

We ordered two sets of rice, and one asam pedas dish separately, so that my mother and I could share the rice.

nasi ayam penyet for my mother

nasi hujan panas ayam goreng berempah for WW

asam pedas tenggiri, to share with the nasi ayam penyet

Verdict? Not bad, but not specially good either. Both of the fried chicken was rather normal, and the asam pedas was nice but not spicy enough. The bill came up to around 40 ringgit with two drinks (they had GST).

* I called the fish head stall owner today (I have a name card with their mobile phone number), and she said they were no longer selling. I was hoping they had only moved... because they usually have quite a lot of customers!

Now this is what I call mixed grill!

Some time ago, I bought a 3-in-1 waffle-maker. Simply because I wanted to make waffles at home, and this kind of waffle-maker which has interchangeable plates for sandwiches, waffles, or grill felt more worth the money.

My waffle attempts were unsuccessful...I can't get the waffle batter to rise! But today we used it to make home-made barbecue instead.

The ingredients after preparation:

One plate of mixed grill, arranged for show!

In total, we have eleven different items in our mixed grill!
1. chicken
2. sausage
3. ham
4. pork slices
5. bacon
6. prawns
7. squid
8. capsicum
9. onion
10. iceberg lettuce (shredded)
11. king oyster mushroom (we were just looking for fresh mushrooms)

Seems that this is a much better use for my sandwich maker (that's its actual name) after all.

The sleepy bottle

Time for another humourous complaint! It has been a while since I posted one of those, huh...

I have this bottle of lotion in the office, for when the air-con dries out my skin. There's about half left (I don't use it much), and it's rather thick. So I put the bottle lying down, to make it easier to get the lotion out.

But some kind souls love to "help" me put the bottle upright whenever they see that it has "fallen" down...

So I stuck a sticker onto it. The sticker has been there for maybe a year now... but I think no one has read it, because they still "help" it get up. :(

Sticker says: "I WANT TO SLEEP!!! Don't make me stand..."

Well, it's actually no big deal, it just takes me a bit longer to get the lotion out when I need it (if I don't notice earlier that someone has stood up the bottle again). And it's actually rather funny how people think they are helping, when they are actually doing the opposite...
